Prague - St. Nicholas Church & the Infant of Prague

St. Nicholas Church is overwhelmingly baroque. Quite dizzying.

Infant of Prague is in a nearby cathedral. Interestingly, he has had many different outfits over the ages, which are on display at the cathedral. The Infant is said to be able to influence the weather.

Locks - supposed to be symbolic of everlasting love, except when the locks get cut off.

More work from and admirer of James

The Lennon Wall. In the 1980s, young people filled the wall with drawings and poems of peace and love,, inspired by John Lennon. The authorities painted over the graffitii, but it reappeared the next day. It continues to be painted and repainted, but now it is because it is a "living" wall.

This is for Kate.

Eating in Prague

Lokal - one of the most cohesive, tasty meals on our trip. Homemade raspberry and seltzer drink, homemade beer, bean and sausage soup, cabbage salad with horseradish, and pork knuckle goulash with shaved horseradish. Out best, and very economical, meal while on this trip.

And very nice ladies' sanitary facility at Lokal.

Scenes from the Charles Bridge

September 13, 2014 - one must visit early in the day before the masses of tourists, again with the coy, cross-legged selfies.

There is religious statuary lining the bridge, and beautiful views towards the lesser city and the main part of the city on the other side of the river.

Memorial to the Victims of Communism

September 15, 2014

Over 200,000 were arrested during the communist era for political crimes, others forced into exile and 248 executed. The stark memorial is below. Thankfully there was no one taking selfies in front of the memorial.

The Bone Church of Kutna Hora dates from the 13th century, its popularity for a place of internment being the result of an abbott sprinkling the exterior grounds with some soil from the Holy Land. The interior - chandeliers, columns, and other elements consist entirely of bones. It is a strange experience, made even stranger by the tourists taking selfies while posing in coy manners in front of the skeletal remains.

Nearby the Bone Church is a Philip Morris International factory and small museum on the history of tobacco. Strang justaposition.
